National Campaigns (The following list includes only those in which UNESCO field offices play an important role, usually in coordination with the National Commission for UNESCO. In other countries without UNESCO offices (Philippines, Algeria, Republic of Korea, France, Spain, Saint Lucia, etc) national campaigns are developed by UNESCO National Commissions. The list also does not necessarily include the many campaigns mobilized by international and national NGO partners):

• Establishment of technical commission with representatives of 5 ministries and Parliament, as well as UNESCO office, to develop activities for IYCP, followed by intensive media campaign (Burundi)

• Development of national plan for culture of peace including UNESCO office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and civil society (environmentalists, women, youth, artists, armed forces, mayors, parliaments, human rights organizations, etc.) (El Salvador)

• Establishment of National Committee for IYCP with representatives of PALS (Peace and Love in Schools), service clubs, churches, police, university students, trade unions and the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission as well as UNESCO office (Jamaica)

• Activities for the IYCP coordinated by UNESCO office include special parliamentary sessions, publications, exhibitions of children's art, carnaval events for the culture of peace and collection of Manifesto 2000 signatures at Brazilian National Parliament, state legislative assemblies, state and local governments (Gaiano, Avaré, Rio Grande do Sul, Rio de Janeiro, Bahia, Ceará, Pernambuco, Espirito Santo, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Goiás and Paraiba, NGOs, associations, universities and schools throughout the country (Brazil)

• Development and implementation of partnership agreements with NGOs, foundations, associations, UNESCO clubs, etc. to celebrate IYCP (UNESCO office, Argentina)

• Coordination of events for IYCP by numerous associations, centres, academies, institutes, NGOs, UNESCO clubs, young committees and enterprises, including launch of the IYCP on 5 February, inaugurated by the Vice President of India (UNESCO office, India)

• Partnership agreement with International NGO Brahma Kumaris for collection of Manifesto 2000 signatures at workshops & programmes, at booths in hospitals, railway stations, bus stops, public parks, tourist resorts, and by visiting schools, prisons, banks, private medical clinics, post offices, religious places, courts and other offices - 10 million collected through 11 July (UNESCO office, India)

• National campaign for IYCP including partnerships with 15 organizations, several performing artists, seminars with women NGOs, conferences and debates in universities and schools, sensitivity training of police and over 27,000 signatures collected on Manifesto 2000 (UNESCO office, Cote d'Ivoire)

• National campaign for IYCP including Manifesto stand at Book Fair, television programme "Millennium" and collection of manifesto signatures at supermarkets, department stores and shopping malls (UNESCO office, Dominican Republic)

• National Programme of Education for a Culture of Peace and Human Rights (Bamako) and National Project "Tombouctou: Ville sans armes" (Mali)

• Establishment of National Advisory Board for IYCP by UNESCO office, National Commission for UNESCO, various ministries, UN agencies, NGOs, churches and other representatives of the civil society with activities including distribution and collection of signatures on Manifesto 2000, national conference on caring and sharing, debate among learners of high schools and universities, essay competition on culture of peace and media discussions (Namibia)

• Launch of national IYCP campaign by President and Cabinet and establishment of National Committee by Federal Ministry of Culture and Tourism, including participation of UNESCO office (Nigeria, 18 April 2000)

• Development of a national programme for IYCP by National Commission for UNESCO with the support of the UNESCO office (Paraguay)

• National Pilot Project "Culture of Peace in Russia - Year 2000" elaborated by National Commission for UNESCO, the Ministry of Nationalities and the UNESCO office in Moscow - consisting of regional programmes (underway in seven regions including the North Caucasus) and mobilization of city governments, school systems, universities, institutes, NGOs throughout the country, including, among others, in the cities of Moscow, Kazan, Nalchik, Ekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Vladivostok, Volgograd, Tomsk, Birobidjan, Yaroslavl, Ufa, St. Petersburg, Derbent, Voronezh, Novocherkassk, Stavropol, Pyatigorsk, Samara, Syktyvar, Omsk, Elabuga and Yakutsk, Russian Federation

• Establishment of National Coordinating Committee for Year 2000 celebration, including UNESCO representative, in the framework of the IYCP (Vietnam)
