WHAT MEAD LEARNED

FROM SOUTH SEA PEOPLES

'Warfare is only an invention

-- not a biological necessity.'

This was the title of an essay

by the world-famous cultural

anthropologist Margaret

Mead based upon her

scientific work among the

peoples of the South Sea.

Her conclusions which were

published on the eve of World

War II helped inspire the

Seville Statement on

Violence.
