- 2 - (a) A special document (25 C/20) will be presented to the General Conference at its twenty-fifth session under item 5.7 of its provisional agenda. It deals with: Follow-up to the International Congress on Peace in the Minds of Men: Yamoussoukro Declaration; Seville Statement on Violence. This document, which will also be communicated to Unesco's Executive Board at its 132nd session in September 1989, contains in Part B a short genesis of the statement and reports on its main proposals and conclusions. The full text of the Seville statement is also annexed to this document. (1:) 1n the operational part of document 25 C/20. I propose, inter alia, to implement within the framework of the Programme and Budget for 1990-1991 (25 C/5) the recommendations of the Yamoussoukro Congress: (i) dissemination of the Seville statement on Violence in various languages (25 C/5, paragraph 07108); (ii) organization of an interdisciplinary seminar to study the cultural and social origins of violence. I assume that this seminar would formulate a further Statement on Violence (25 C/5, paragraph 07109)} (c) It is worth adding that the endorsement of the Seville Statement by the Yamaussoukro Congress has been widely publicized, and I have sent out circular letters containing the Yamoussoukro Declaration to all Member states. (d) Last but not least, I have also decided that a special publication presenting the results of the Yamoussoukro Congress on Peace in the Minds of Men will be prepared by 15 October 1989. Its first chapter will deal with the Seville Statement on Violence and will contain: (i) the full text cf the Statement itself: (ii) an introduction to the discussion on this item, and (iii) a synthesis of the debate. Once more, I would like to thank you for an your suggestions and proposals concerning the Seville statement. I am grateful for your offer of assistance and will certainly continue to count on your help and co-operation. Yours Sincerely, Federico Mayor
