--- You the Support Network, are the key to the distribution and use of the Seville Statement materials. Here is a brief survey of what you are doing, beginning with two of the many letters we have received from resource contacts. the enclosed letters from Ruben Ardila in Colombia and Keith Suter in Australia. As Ardila notes, the endorsement of the Seville Statement by the Colombian Society of Psychology should help with the distribution of materials --- Riitta Wahlstrom of Finland continues to be our most effective diplomat. This year she has presented the Seville Statement to: a Conference of French peace organizations in Grenoble in March, the first European Conference on Peacemaking and Conflict Resolution in Turkey in April, the Teachers for Peace Conference in Paris in June, the International Institute on Peace Education in Tokyo, the Zenkyo All-Japan Teachers and Staff Union, and the Japanese Psychologists for Peace in July, and the International Peace Research Association in Kyoto, Japan in July. while in Japan she obtained for us the first publication of the Seville Statement in the Thai language (by the Peace Information Center of Thailand). --- From Nigeria, Peter Okoh writes that they plan to copy materials for local distribution (the new flyer is ideal for this). He sent a review of the brochure in the government-owned newspaper, the Daily Times, which has the largest circulation in Nigeria. In New Zealand, A.J.W. Taylor has distributed the Statement to the Quakers, New Zealand Psychological Society. Physicians for Social Responsibility, a newly formed Forensic Psychiatry Unit, and to the Peace Studies Unit at the Victoria University of Wellington. In India, Dr, M. Aram has distributed the brochure to leading personalities and institutes of peace studies. The Statement has been used effectively in teaching by Craig Summers in Canada. --- In France, the Mouvement Universel de la Responsabilite Scientifique has included the advertisement for the brochure in their most recent issue of Cahiers. In the Netherlands, following a June meeting, at least four organizations are disseminating the Statement, including the medical professionals for peace, women for peace, the Humanist Peace Council, and the Association For Active Non-violence. The latter is considering translation of the Statement into Dutch, according to correspondent Piet Dijkstra. In Peru, the English language materials have been distributed among English- speaking professionals and researchers, and the Spanish materials will be distributed more widely, according to resource contact Folipe MacGreqor. Recently. he has been using the Statement in lectures to military officers in that strife-torn land --- From Greece, Dimitra Papadopoulou writes that the brochure has been copied and distributed to student teachers of the Laboratory For Education for Peace, to preschool teachers at a colloquium for peace education, to presidents of the 34 Faculties of Aristotle University, and to the Peace Center of Cyprus. Future distribution will be facilitated by the decision to introduce international education to all the faculties of Aristotle University under the direction of Dr. Papadopoulou. --- Takehiko Ito, our Japanese resource contact, will present a survey on student views of human nature, violence and war with the Seville Statement on Violence at the first Asian Conference in Psychology at Singapore in October, along with Sakuichi Nakagawa and Akihiro Sugita. They are also planning a publication of the Statement in Japanese. In Spain, Jose Delgado presented the Statement to the Hispano—American Congress dealing with education and peace on the theme, "Encuentro de Dos Mundos," and to the Federacion de Mujeres Para la Paz Mundial. In Washington, D.C., flyers were distributed at the American Psychological Meetings in July, where Psychologists For Social Responsibility gave the annual Joel Seldin peace award to David Adams for the Seville Statement and its dissemination. --- Finally, I call your attention to the enclosed letter of Francesco Robustelli, in which he urges us to expand the work of our network to a broader program of peace culture.
