The time has come to abolish violence
and to create a culture of peace
to re-order the world economy
to harmonize our relation to nature
The ground is ready
and the first sign of change can be seen.
Disarmament is no longer the image of a dream,
but it is shown as a scene on the evening news,
and carried as a fact to the furthest village.
The people are ready
for dialogue and for partnership
with those who have been called enemies
They demand to be both
the builders and the tenants of the future,
and artisans of a culture of peace.
They are asking us for tools:
science; education; mass communication.
UNESCO, whose responsibility it is, is ready
to provide these tools of the mind
to construct the defences of peace
and to create the conditions for peace in the minds.
