Liberia
La Commission Nationale du Liberia a décidé de reporter au 5 octobre, Journée des enseignants, le lancement de l'AICP dans le pays. Différentes manifestations ont été prévues à cette occasion : séminaires, conférences ainsi que mobilisation des médias.
Maurice
Différentes activités ont été prévues à Maurice pour célébrer le lancement de l'Année internationale. En particulier des séminaires, des expositions et des programmes audiovisuels consacrés à la culture de la paix et à la diffusion du Manifeste 2000.
Mali
Dans le cadre du lancement de l'AICP, le Président de la république, Alpha Oumar Konaré, a décidé de réunir en septembre à Bamako une quinzaine d'historiens africains en provenance de diverses régions d'Afrique en vue d'examiner les questions suivantes :
- la création d'un réseau d'historiens africains pour des recherches sur la culture de la paix;
- la mise en place d'un Comité préparatoire du Congrès panafricain d'historiens prévu à Bamako en l'an 2000. S'inscrivant dans la ligne de l'appel de Tripoli pour l'avènement d'une culture de la paix en Afrique à la veille du 3ème millénaire, ce congrès répond aussi aux voeux exprimés par tous les historiens africains réunis à Tripoli en avril 1999.
Namibia
Namibia has opted for a Peace March in Windhoek and in five centres in the regions to celebrate the launch of the IYCP.
The Minister of Basic Education and Culture invited all the schools of the country to participate in the peace marches which had been organized in all major centres. In the capital city they asembled in the Parliament Gardens where the Head of State, President Sam Nujoma, addressed the Windhoek Peace march and Mr Johnny McClain, UNESCO Representative to Namibia, delivered the message of the Director General of UNESCO. All Cabinet Ministers and leaders of the opposition parties were invited.
The schools in major town had similar marches like Windhoek. The speech of the President was read by the Regional Governors while the Regional Directors of Education delivered the message of Mr Federico Mayor.
All political leaders, all Government regional structures, churches through the Council of Churches in Namibia, traditional and community leaders were involved.
Two members of the Namibia National Commission have appeared on a cultural programme on 9 September to announce the event. A panel discussion was also programmed on NBC Television for a well-known programme " Talk of the Nation " on 13 September evening. The panelists were the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, the UNESCO Representative to Namibia, the General Secretary of the Council of Churches and the Secretary General of the National Commission.
Moreover NBC television covered all peace marches country-wide. The NBC Radio broadcast interviews on the event in English on the national channel and on all the local languages services. The Media Liaison Office of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued a Press release to all newspapers.
